What do you prefer and why?

In the past I would’ve said battery operated, but these days many headlamps allow you to use both the rechargeable unit and batteries in the same headlamp, which is fantastic. However if I had to pick, I’d still lean toward batteries, just because of the ability to take spares.
i think there’s a place for both. i take a battery operated one on long hikes so that I can carry spare batteries. i use my rechargeable one for day to day use, camping and on shorter excursions. works well for me!
Absolutely, battery operated all the way. The ability to carry spares is essential, especially on long hikes.
