Arranging Food Re-Supply on the Drakensburg Grand Traverse

I plan to do the DGT in April/May next year over 10 to 14 days as a self-supported hike, so at least one food re-supply will be required.

I am trying to figure out how to arrange a re-supply (I don’t live in South Africa) and am hoping someone can help me with some info:

  1. Are there any hiking groups or tour operators that could provide a re-supply service?
  2. What are the ‘best’ re-supply points along the route?

Thanks!

Interesting question, have you ever done a 14 day hike/mountaineering?

Over 14 days, yes. Mountaineering, no. Is that important for the DGT? I haven’t been to the Drakensberg before.

Out of curiosity, why is it an interesting question?

I wouldn’t say that (real) mountaineering is important on a DGT. There are some scrambles, but nothing requiring any actual technical climbing gear or skill.

I think Wandelaar answered my question. Some areas of the hike is not a walk in the park( so to say) I know that route falls under SANParks. Best is to contact them to get the Should’s and Should not’s

I know you have to join a group, they wouldn’t allow Solo hikers( for their Safety record)
