Im doing the Botswana dessert walk in July. Any shoes to recommend pls, was looking at the barefoot shoes, anyone used those before?
If you have not used barefoot shoes before, this is not a time to “try them out”. Find a premium brand you already like, buy whatever trailrunner/hiking boots they make and get used to them before you start the walk.
Even better, get a podiatrist to pick the shoes for you, not a forum.
P.S. My podiatrist loves Barefoot shoes, as people use them without experience, wreck their feet and then need to get plenty of treatment.
Hi Nyeleti… how many kilometers are you doing?
You can any light realible hiking boot, or trail runner shoes which are breathable.
Something to remedy the hot sand and fraction.
Thank you. We doing 30km
Will try this, thanx
Great… all the best.
I’ll also be doing for it for the 4th time now… and backpacking
Consider the desert hiking boots from Decathlon. So Paladium, those fashion ankle boots, make a lot of noise for being ex-French Foreign Legion boots. Thing is the FFL used to operate in the North African desert a lot. Canvas boots can be good for this as they retain a bit of moisture keeping your feet cool in this kind of environment. I think the Decathlon boot also has a tall tongue gusset to keep sand out. Just a thought.
And to echo @calypso do not try out barefoot shoes on a long hike, you have to work your way into them, common problem will be Plantar Fasciitis.
