I am a Dutch hiker planning to make a 3 week road-trip end of July-early August 2023 starting in Johannesburg. We have been for a week in Hoedspruit a few years ago and at that time did not do a lot of active activities (mainly because I fell ill on day 2 of our stay), we truly enjoyed the area but also missed being outside in nature like we do in other countries. I am now looking for tips/advise on nice (unguided) day hikes of about 15-20 kilometers in roughly the area between Johannesburg - Drakensberg - Hoedspruit - Pilanesberg. I am aware it will be winter so maybe Drakensberg is too cold, too much risk for snow/ice?
