Magoebaskloof

If you have a booking or are planning to do the Magoebaskloof hike ( any of the routes), please refrain. We made a booking in January for the 6 day hike. We arrived yesterday (4 April) to be told that all trails are completely overgrown and closed. A group had tried to hike the day before us from de hoek to woodbush. They became lost and had to be rescued in the middle of the night. It seems that the SAFCOL office is merrily selling permits for hike that essentially does not exist currently. I will be taking it up with them when we return home. Very sad and we are hugely disappointed.

Thanks for the info @kstulpner

That is shocking! I am so sorry that you had that experience.

Does anyone know whether the Magoebaskloof Hiking Trail still exist? I can’t find it on the Safcol website :grimacing:

The best would be to give them a call: +27137642071 / +27 12 436 6300

Alternatively, try Fagalavoet (https://www.fagalavoet.co.za/index.php/magoebaskloof-hiking-trail/), or Afritrails (https://afritrails.com/trail/magoebaskloof-trail-tzaneen/2675)

Its worth putting a group together to do a trail clearing exercise for them.

Good be a great week out for those so inclined to a bit of hard work. Done this a couple of times definitely rewarding and a different exposure
