Hi everyone! - Some info or advice please!
I did a one day up over the Camel ridge to Windy Gap and then to Cleft Peak in 2008. There was a section that was super spongy and super sketchy close to where the path connected to Organ Pipes.
I want to make this a 2 nighter (Hotel to Cleft Peak and back) around mid September and am wondering if anyone has done this recently and if the path is as crazy as it was when I did it. Any advice and info will be welcome!
Hi Craig, I’ve done this twice fairly recently, once in March 2025 in the rainy season with a multiday pack on, and there is 1 exposed section where you traverse a rock face about 2-3m in length. It was doable, but extremely slippery which made it trickier - and to someone inexperienced and/or afraid of heights it could be scary, but still ultimately very doable.
A few months later, July 2025, my wife and I climbed Cleft peak and as the rock was bone dry and we had light daypacks, we just breezed over that same section.
It’s hard to say definitively as these things are very different for different people (depending on experience and just general confidence), but ultimately I don’t think it is tough enough to avoid the hike - I think anyone would be capable of doing it, regardless of weather, some might just get a little rush.
