Seeking "flattish" WC overnight hikes for a recovering ACL

Hi hikers! My family planned on doing a 4 person, 2 night hike in the Cederberg the first weekend in May, but my 17yo is rehabbing an ACL injury and is nervous about the steep assents/descents aggravating it further before her matric sport seasons.

I’m looking for an alternative route we can do that is pretty flat. Ideally with wild or primitive camping over 1-2 nights. I’ve heard Damara Trail at De Mond Nature Reserve might be an easy but reasonable option, but I can’t find much info about it. Has anyone done this route and can share info/recommendations?

Or any other recommendations, very much appreciated! :folded_hands:

Haven’t been myself but have a look at Groot Winterhoek? Might be flatter compared to Cederberg.

Groot Winterhoek could work if you did a East then South loop from the parking lot, or a straight in and out from the parking lot to the Oaks before de Hel might actually be the flattest over two days. Flatish, mostly downhills, would just not do a decent into de Hel as part of it. Could plug the route into Caltopo.com and have a look at the gradient.

Thank you both, Groot Windhoek seems ideal. Unfortunately Cape Nature Reserve has just informed me it is closed for repairs until 21 June .

Any other route suggestions are very much appreciated!! :folded_hands:t4:

Grootwinterhoek is in the mountains, so not flat everywhere. It is pretty flat for a few kms directly south of reception (on jeep track) and directly east of reception.

De Hoop has camping with many hikes/walks. The longest is 16km, which my family (not hikers at all) did in about 6 hours, and it is pretty much completely flat, but with wonderful views of the river, lagoon and wildlife. You walk from the campsite to the dunes and back. You can also go to the beach for some beautiful rockpools and natural tidal pools to swim in. There is also the whale trail which is a 5 day hike, but I haven’t done it myself.
